Join us for a Summer School on environmental and computational neuroscience!
The CLUES Seminar: Integrating Environmental and Health Data with CLUES was successfully held as part of the environMENTAL seminar series on June 24, 2026, bringing together researchers, students, data scientists, and other stakeholders interested in environmental exposure assessment and health research.
The seminar explored the exposome paradigm, which considers the totality of environmental exposures experienced by an individual throughout their lifetime. Rather than focusing on isolated exposures, such as air pollution or occupational hazards, the exposome framework recognises the complex, cumulative, and interacting effects of physical, chemical, social, and occupational environmental factors on human health.
A key topic of the seminar was the challenge of integrating heterogeneous environmental data. Although information on air quality, water contamination, chemical exposures, neighbourhood characteristics, and socioeconomic factors is available from numerous sources, these datasets often lack common standards and interoperable frameworks. This fragmentation continues to limit large-scale exposome research and the systematic investigation of complex exposure–health relationships.
The seminar presented the CLUES (Climate, Urbanicity, Environment and Society) framework as a practical solution to these challenges. As an established geospatial framework, CLUES facilitates the integration of diverse environmental exposures with health research data at the individual level. The speakers demonstrated how environmental exposure data from open-access sources can be systematically harmonised and linked with individual-level health data in a privacy-compliant manner.
The event attracted more than 4,700 online viewers, reflecting the strong interest in the CLUES framework and its applications.
We would like to thank the speakers and all participants for their valuable contributions and engaging discussions, which made the seminar a great success.
The seminar recording will be made available on our website soon.
